Intentional Layers: An approach to wall art

In this 3-day class, we will explore techniques for making layered wall art with polymer clay such as: sequential cutwork, combining offset open shape texture layers, extruded lacy or woven layers and making accents for mixed media collage.

This workshop will include several different approaches to backgrounds — all polymer backgrounds, painted polymer backgrounds as well as paper. Although the workshop won’t cover any techniques for making collage papers, it will include making accent pieces for paper collage art. We will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of different substrates as well as the challenges of using glues with polymer clay.

Most of these techniques can also be used at a smaller scale for jewelry. We can brainstorm ways to alter scale.

This will not be a finished project type of workshop, but more of a chance to make a variety of small samples to jumpstart further exploration in your own studio practice.
