We are so excited to have Meisha Barbee coming December 8th thru the 10th. She has been developing a new technique to make veneers that look like Shibori fabric, which will be ideal for earrings, bracelets, pendants…you name it. For only $390 you can add this fun technique to your basket of tricks. It’s a pretty realistic polymer rendition of one of our favorite fabrics, and you know you can always have another piece of fabric in your stash! Call me(404-314-5767 – Sue) if this is of interest and you are vaccine compliant and not a total beginner, and we will add you to the sign up list!
SHIBORI is an ancient Japanese technique of folding and dying fabric to create repeat patterns. Meisha’s technique resembles the Itajime method of Shibori. Her process uses extruded clay to mimic the pattern rather than the folding technique used for fabric.
Day 1
In this class, students will explore a different way to blend colors and alter the blends to best express their desired results. With this blending technique, one can combine colors that are normally difficult to blend effectively.
Day 2
The colored blends will be used to extrude the clay; then we will build an array of shibori style canes.
Day 3
We will explore various ways to use the individual canes as well as combine the shibori patterns with other clay patterns or simple textured sheets to create beautiful pieces.
Students may or may not choose to make finished pieces in class. This is mostly a technique-based class. Students will be encouraged to bring their own esthetic to the process selecting colors and designs.
